Who is collecting your personal information?

Your personal information for the purchase of tickets for the APS Data Awards 2024 is being collected by through a third party ticket provider Eventbrite. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) collects some your personal information from Eventbrite to then manage the ticket purchase, dietary requirements/special requirements for the event and feedback and follow up on the event.

Eventbrite is based in California in the United States and their privacy policy and Australian Data Protection document be accessed on the Eventbrite website. The website details on how they will manage your personal information you provide to them on signing up to their platform.

During the event, photographs, video and audio will be taken for future promotional use by the ABS. By entering inside the Awards venue at Hotel Realm, you give implied consent, that any image or recording you appear in can be used to promote the APS Data Awards on several public platforms.

What personal information is collected?

When making a ticket purchase, you will be required to provide the following personal information to Eventbrite through their ticketing website:

  • Contact name
  • Contact email address
  • Transaction details relating to the purchase of a ticket
  • Credit card details
  • other relevant information to facilitate your attendance at the event (e.g. dietary preferences, accessibility needs [i.e. wheelchair access], etc).

If you are providing personal information on behalf of another attendee (like buying a table for your friends and colleagues) you require their consent in providing their personal information prior to purchasing the ticket and it is suggested that you provide a copy of this collection notice for their information.

Some of the information you provide when purchasing a ticket through Eventbrite, will be shared with the ABS, who is administering the APS Data Awards 2024:

  • names of attendees
  • dietary and special requirements for the event
  • email address

How will your personal information be used?

Authorised ABS staff will use the above information collected from Eventbrite to use on the night at the event (such as dietary requirements and accessibility needs, etc.) and to communicate relevant information about the event to each ticket holder including a request for feedback afterwards.

 Consent for further contact from the ABS may be selected by you (optional) and if you choose this option, we may use your name and email address to contact you.

How will your personal information be managed?

The ABS complies with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Archives Act 1983 in the storage, collection, access, use, disclosure, retention and destruction of your personal information. When personal information is collected by the ABS as part of the APS Data Awards 2024, it will be stored on secure ABS systems and will be removed from the secure ABS environment no later than 31 March 2025.

Who will your personal information be shared with? Does anyone else have access to your personal information?

The ABS will not:

  • share information in a way that would identify you or your organisation(s) without your consent
  • share information with private organisations, such as direct marketing companies
  • share information with other government agencies for compliance or regulation activities unless required or authorised by Australian law.

Privacy complaints
